IMPACT OF PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT ON EMPLOYEES.
Performance Management focuses on future performance planning and improvement rather than on retrospective performance appraisal. It functions as a continuous and evolutionary process, in which performance improves over time. It provides the basis for regular and frequent dialogue between managers and individuals about performance and development needs. Hence, performance management is an indispensable factor in any organisation since it is through it that employee performance is measured and ascertained. Thus, this study evaluates the aims of performance management, compares/distinguishes performance management from performance appraisal, x-rays problems of rating and proffers solution to achieving consistency in rating. However, the study recommends that proper training should be given to both managers and subordinates on the concept, process and techniques of performance management. Again, for the purpose of achieving the desired goal, there should be no disagreement from employees when they are told what they are expected to and how they are expected to behave in order to achieve the goals of performance management.
