ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to investigate business education as a tool for the acquisition of skills required by entrepreneurs for achieving sustainable national ec000iflic development – a survey of selected business education graduates small business entrepreneurs in Delta State, Nigeria. in this paper, efforts were made to review the historical background of business education in Nigeria and also the theories of administration of business education programme were reviewed. A set of structured questionnaire was used as the instrument for data collection and administration on 100 business education graduates small scale business owners entrepreneurs in Delta State, Nigeria randomly selected using Yaro Yamane formula. Applying this formula, the sample size from a population of /34 is 100 respondents at 95% confidence level. Data analysis was made and the hypotheses formulated were tested using the Pearson Moment Correlation co-efficient at 0.05 level of significance. The study revealed that significant relationship exists between business education graduates small scale business owners entrepreneurs and creation of employment opportunities for the teeming jobless population and the provision of the needed goods and services to the public. Another finding was that significant relationship exist between business education graduates small business owners entrepreneurs and wealth creation fur nation. The researchers concluded that though business education graduates may not possess all the technical skills needed by entrepreneurs in the various fields of gainful entrepreneurship in the economy yet it possesses the organizational and administrative skills to equip prospective entrepreneurs and update those already in business towards the development of the Nigerian economy. The study however, recommended that a revision of business education curricula to incorporate required knowledge of the latest technology for business administration, importation of textbooks on business education, government assisting young business education graduates with microfinance facilities, making business education more functional and a host of others for business education to be properly positioned to play a role in developing entrepreneurial skills for the nation.
